Times Square Studios recently served as the host site to the 75th Anniversary Celebration for Volvo. The Master of Ceremonies for the event was actor/comedian Jon Stewart. The crowd of more than 300 invited media and guests enjoyed the world class entertainment including Sugar Ray, Suzanne Vega, Donald Sutherland, traditional Swedish toasts and much more.
The highlight of the event was marked by Irv Gordon driving his 1966 Volvo down Broadway and directly into Times Square Studios as the odometer rolled over 2,000,000 miles. Representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records were standing by with the CEO of Volvo to congratulate Irv and present him with the keys to a new car.
The glass enclosed Street Level Studio was surrounded by huge crowds of people who had gathered around the open-air window walls to watch all of the excitement. The Marquee Level Studio was outfitted in traditional Swedish furniture and the new Volvo S80.
Aided by the direction of the Times Square Studios staff, Volvo also became the center of attention for all of Times Square as they erected a 34-foot tall, 16,000-lb. sculpture representing Volvo's long standing commitment to safety. Colorful and creative Volvo animation played on the outdoor Jumbotron. This made for a stunning backdrop helping to showcase Volvo to the thousands of people in Times Square.
